SCHERVIER PAVILION RESIDENTS CELEBRATE FOURTH OF JULY

SCHERVIER PAVILION RESIDENTS CELEBRATE FOURTH OF JULY

WARWICK - (July 5, 2013) – It was a cause for celebration.

But July 4th, the birthday of the Nation, was also an opportunity to celebrate the birthday of Caroline Clinton, 92, a resident at Schervier Pavilion, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility on the Warwick Campus of the Bon Secours Charity Health System. And, like the George M. Cohen song, she was “born on the fourth of July.”

Another Schervier Pavilion resident, Ernestine “Erna” Freisinger, was also born on the 4th of July and she celebrated her 101st birthday earlier that day with close members of her family.

Caroline Clinton’s daughter Caroline Ritchie brought a birthday cake for the party and the staff served it along with glasses of punch to everyone.

Kevin Curry, one of the residents’ most popular singers, was on hand to sing all the old songs, especially those patriotic melodies that were especially appropriate for the fourth of July. He then led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to Caroline Clinton. Residents stated that they always enjoy getting together with the activities staff to celebrate holidays.

“We publish a calendar every month that’s filled with interesting and entertaining things to do throughout the day as well as some evenings.” Said Kari Call, a certified therapy recreation specialist (CTRS) and director of recreation. “And we always seize the opportunity to celebrate holidays and seasonal events. Therapeutic recreation is essential to the quality of life and the quality of care of individuals receiving health and human services at our facility.”
