ST. ANTHONY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL TO HOST “HEALTHY HOLIDAY COOKING,” A FREE INFORMATIONAL EVENT AND COOKING DEMONSTRATION

WARWICK, NY – According to St. Anthony Community Hospital’s Lead Registered Dietitian Janine Killeen RD, CDE, CDN, many of us are likely to gain four to eight pounds during the holiday season. And an additional problem these days, she added, is that people are retaining this weight due to our ever-increasing sedentary lifestyles.

At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, November 16, Morrison Healthcare Specialists of
St. Anthony Community Hospital, under the direction of Michael Cooper, CDM, will present a free informational event entitled, “Healthy Holiday Cooking.” The event will be held in the Greenbriar Room at Mt. Alverno Center, 20 Grand Street, Warwick, just ¼ mile past the hospital.

During the program the Dietitians and Culinary Team will explain the many nutrition benefits you derive by choosing colorful and tasty holiday dishes that will please your guests, satisfy your palate and provide plenty of health benefits without adding too many calories.

Professional Registered Dietitians (RDs) will share their tips on mindful eating that can slow down the eating experience and still be in tune with the sight, aroma, flavor and texture of your food, so that you enjoy more and eat less. A cooking demonstration will accompany the event and guests will be invited to sample all of the dishes.

“We will demonstrate how to cook light without losing the flavor of the traditional holiday foods we’ve grown to love,” said Assistant Food Service Director Carmela Decker of Morrison Food Service Management. “There is a definite connection between eating healthy and staying well but it’s not necessary to sacrifice flavor.” Decker is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.

Seating is limited. Please register early by calling 845-987-5197.
