Meet Our Surgeons  

Kenneth S. Austin, MD, Orthopedic Section Chief, Good Samaritan Hospital 

Specialties:  ACL Reconstruction, Arthroscopic surgery, Meniscus surgery, Total knee replacement, Unicompartmental knee replacement including robotic surgery 

Kenneth S. Austin, MD, is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. 

Dr. Austin completed a fellowship in reconstructive surgery of the knee at Harvard University’s Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at New York University School of Medicine, where he also received his medical degree. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania as a Benjamin Franklin General Scholar.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the New York State Medical Society and the Rockland County medical Society.  Dr. Austin has been listed in Becker’s ASC Review as Physician Leaders to Know and named a Top Doc in the New York Metro Area by Castle Connolly.

Arup K. Bhadra, MD, MRCS, MSC, Director of the Joint Replacement Program, Good Samaritan Hospital

Arup K. Bhadra, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon.  He completed fellowships in adult reconstruction and traumatology at the University of Louisville as well as a fellowship in sports medicine at Indiana University. He received his residency training in trauma and orthopedic surgery from Homerton University Hospital and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He received his master’s in orthopedic engineering from Cardiff University, and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College.

Dr. Bhadra is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow, United Kingdom.

William L. Davis, Jr., MD

William L. Davis, Jr., MD, is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Davis completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Connecticut. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at University Hospital’s Case Medical Center in Cleveland. Dr. Davis received his medical degree with a distinction in research from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY).

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic surgeons. He is also a member of the Charles H. Herndon Alumni Society, the Medical Society of the State of New York and the Rockland County Medical Society.  He has been included in Castle Connolly’s Top Doc lists for the Hudson Valley and the New York Metro Area.

Jason E. Fond, MD

Jason E. Fond, MD, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon, sports medicine specialist.  He is currently a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as a member of the New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Medical Society of the State of New York.

Dr. Fond completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Virginia Sports Medicine Institute affiliated with Georgetown University. At that time, he was an assistant team physician for the Washington Redskins and George Mason University. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Fond received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his bachelor’s degree with honors from Tufts University.

Barry Kraushaar, MD, Director of Sports Medicine, Good Samaritan Hospital 

Specialties:  Hip injury, including arthroscopic repair, Joint preservation and replacement including robotic surgery, Knee meniscus cartilage and ligament injury, Shoulder instability and rotator cuff injuries, Sports injuries of elbow, shoulder and knee, Total hip replacement from both anterior and posterior approaches

Barry Kraushaar, MD is Dual board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Kraushaar completed his fellowship training in sports medicine at Virginia Sports Medicine Institute and Georgetown University, where he published widely about tendon injuries in athletes. His residency in orthopedic surgery was completed at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His bachelor’s degree in neuroscience was completed at Colgate University.

Dr. Kraushaar has received the prestigious distinction as a Top Doc for the New York Metro Area by Castle Connolly consecutively from 2004 through 2016, and has been named one of Hudson Valley magazine’s Top Doctors five times between 2006 and 2015. He was also voted as one of the Top Doctors in 2015 by (201) Family magazine.

Mark Medici, MD, Director of Fracture Care, Good Samaritan Hospital

Mark Medici, MD is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Medici completed a fellowship in arthroscopic and orthopedic surgery at Staten Island Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. He did his orthopedic surgery residency at New York College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His medical degree was received from New York Medical College, and his bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall College.

Dr Medici has received the prestigious distinction as a Top Doc for the New York Metro Area by Castle Connolly consecutively from 2009 through 2016, and has been named one of Hudson Valley magazine’s Top Doctors also each year since 2009.  Dr. Medici is currently a proud member of the New York State Medical Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Patrick J. Murray, MD

Patrick J. Murray, MD is Dual board certified in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine.

Dr. Murray completed fellowship training in sports medicine and knee surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was an assistant team physician for the Houston Texans, Houston Astros, and the University of Houston Cougars. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at George Washington University. He received his medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University, where he was elected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He received his bachelor’s degree from Brown University.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is also a member of the New York State Medical Society and the Rockland County Medical Society.

Richard L. Popowitz, MD

Specialties:  Sports medicine, Surgery of the knee and shoulder, Treatment of the competitive athlete

Richard L. Popowitz, MD is dual board certified in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery.

Dr. Popowitz completed a sports medicine fellowship at Stanford University and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital through the University of Miami. He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his bachelor’s degree from Yale University.

Neal H. Shuren, MD

Neal H. Shuren, MD is dual board certified in orthopedic and hand surgery.  Dr. Shuren completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at New York University School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, where he was elected to be a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He received his bachelor’s degree from Boston University.

Dr. Shuren is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He established the first Orthopedics Hand Surgery practice in Rockland County in 1996. He has been named Top Doc in the New York Metro Area by Castle Connolly and one of America’s Top Doctors by Consumers’ Research Council of America.

Jordan A. Simon, MD

Dr. Simon completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Lake Tahoe Orthopedics & Sports Medicine as well as a fellowship in orthopedic research at NYU Langone’s Hospital for Joint Diseases. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at NYU Langone’s Hospital for Joint Diseases, where he was honored with the Senior Residents Research Award.

He earned his medical degree at NYU School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He graduated with honors from Cornell University College of Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
