Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC)

Your feedback can transform the patient experience.

Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) support the delivery of patient-centered care by establishing partnerships between patients and families and the administration of WMCHealth.

Joining the PFAC is an excellent opportunity for you if you are looking for ways to contribute to the greater good by helping to improve the quality of care.

How can I contribute as a PFAC member?

  • Provide feedback on quality, safety, patient experience, communications, facility design, education, staff orientation, and patient/family satisfaction.
  • Help us understand patient and family needs and expectations better.
  • Make recommendations to improve operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Review communication materials from the patient and family perspective, ensuring they are clear and user-friendly.
  • Identify barriers to healthcare access and suggest strategies to overcome them. 

How may my skills and experiences make a difference as a patient and family advisor?

  • Share your experiences as a patient or family member, thinking beyond your own encounters.
  • Discuss positive and negative care experiences, providing insights on what went well and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding any information you learn as an advisor.
  • Collaborate with the hospital on short- or long-term commitments, depending on the project.

What are the eligibility requirements for joining PFAC?

  • Council members must have been a patient or a family member of a patient at WMCHealth within the past five years.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Prioritize the representation of all families within WMCHealth, setting personal agendas aside.
  • Commit to attending monthly 90-minute meetings, with no more than two absences per calendar year, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  • Complete the volunteer application, provide two professional references, undergo a background check, and participate in both a medical screening and WMCHealth orientation (at no cost to you).
