Dr. Zimmerman has over 30 years of experience in the field of electrophysiology and a national reputation as a leader in the diagnosis and advanced treatment of heart rhythm disorders. This includes atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, bradycardia, genetic rhythm disorders, ventricular arrhythmias, supraventricular arrhythmias and other conditions that affect the heart's electrical activity. 

John Zimmerman, MD, is board-certified in cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine. Most recently, Dr. Zimmerman served as the Chief of Electrophysiology at Hackensack University Medical Center for over 30 years. He is known for his clinical expertise as well his clinical research and writing in the field. Dr. Zimmerman has been at the forefront of cardiac medical innovation and technology. He was the first physician to implant a Medtronic cardiac resynchronization defibrillator for the treatment of congestive heart failure in the United States and has been a leader in developing effective ablation techniques for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Zimmerman received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. Dr. Zimmerman performed his cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan and went on to complete a cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Zimmerman has been honored with New York Magazine's Top Doctor Award for the last six years and has been listed as one of Castle Connolly America's Top Doctors since 2016.
