SUFFERN, N.Y. (October 19, 2023) –– Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), has received a $250,000 gift from the Sisters of Reparation Charitable Trust to establish the Mother Mary Zita Endowment.

The endowment gift will help advance women’s health at Good Samaritan Hospital, which includes providing access to advanced gynecologic care, 3D mammography, high-risk cancer screenings, and breast surgery as well as robotic-assisted surgery, menopausal health and maternity care.

“We greatly appreciate this generous gift from the Sisters of Reparation Charitable Trust. Thank you to the Sisters for their philanthropic support of our hospital and their recognition of the vital women’s healthcare services we provide to the community,” said Mary P. Leahy, MD, MHA, CEO of Bon Secours Charity Health System/Good Samaritan Hospital.

The Sisters of Reparation of the Congregation of Mary was established in 1903 by Ellen O’Keefe, a nurse from Ireland whose life’s work was dedicated to caring for women. She was named Superioress of the Congregation under her religious name, Mother Zita, and offered a home for women who needed shelter and employment. After her death, Zita’s Villa was established in Monsey, NY in 1938 in her memory. St. Zita’s Villa served as a residence for the sisters and supported women in need throughout Rockland County.
