EKG/Holter monitoring

A Holter monitor is a portable device you wear that takes an EKG recording of your heart rate over a set period of time (usually 24 hours). The monitor records your heart rate using small pads—called electrodes—attached to your chest.

During the 24-hour test period, you go about your normal activities. If you feel your heart beating fast, or if you feel pain, dizzy or faint, simply press a button on the monitor to record the time, and write down what you’re doing.
Holter monitoring is safe, effective and can provide your physician with important information about your heart and its rhythms. Your doctor will use the monitor’s data, and what you recorded, to help diagnose you.
